4 things to do before your Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser Stay

The Star Wars Galactic Starcuiser is an immersive Star Wars experience that puts you at the center of an epic Star Wars story between the First Order and the Resistance. You get to choose your side and how your story will play out. But what do you need to prepare before your stay? Here's a look at 5 things you should do prior to your Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser stay.

Checking in at the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser at Walt Disney World

1. Pick out your outfits

One of the biggest things you should prep for before your stay is your outfits! Although not required, dressing like you belong in a Star Wars story adds to the fun. We found some really great Star Wars type outfits from shein.com and amazon.com. I found that making outfits look “Star Wars” was a lot about the accessories. Strappy belts and utility type accessories but also fun headbands, necklaces and earrings really add to your look. Other things that have a strong Star Wars look are strong shoulders, draped sweaters, scarves, leather, boots and neutral colors.

I would plan on having two day looks and two night looks. You could have a third look if you want to still dress Star Wars on your check out day. On my last day, I as heading to a Disney park so I put on a Star Wars t-shirt and some short. When you are really immersed into the story line, there is not a lot of time to change. Some people told me to bring lots of outfits before my trip and I am glad that I didn’t. There really just isn’t time to be changing constantly without missing out on some of the things happening around the ship.

I would suggest more comfortable outfits that allow you to move. I wore a skirt on my first day and though that was fine, I did find myself crawling through a hatch at one point (I didn’t HAVE to but I was concerned for a particular wookie). Outfits that let you move around and experience ALL the things that come your way are helpful. The second day you will go to Batuu. I would suggest a more casual outfit for this day as well. Depending on the weather, it could be hot in Hollywood Studios and you’ll want to be comfortable. The rest of your trip you are inside air conditioning so you don’t have to worry too much about how hot it is.

For dinners, we decided to do more dress-y outfits and it fits the mood. You are eating multi-course dinners with live entertainment and looking a little more dressy is acceptable if not encouraged. It was also fun to look a little more glamorous for dinner.

2. Get into character

I was given the advice from some people on social media to create a whole character and backstory to follow while on the ship and while I don’t think you need to go that far into it, I think there are some things that are fun and allow you to be immersed into the experience.

One of the biggest things I suggest doing is picking a planet in the Star Wars universe that you are from. We were A LOT what planet we were from and you feel a bit dumb saying “earth”. You can use this Wikipedia page to research different planets and moons in the Star Wars universe and what they are like.

3. Download the Play Disney App

The easiest way to book reservations for things is through your Play Disney app. You should suggest that this is setup prior to that 60 day window opening. You are able to directly go into the app and book experiences and see your schedules. This app will also be where you interact with everything on the ship and where you will get your communications and missions from the Starcruiser characters. Everyone will need a Play Disney login in order to play their own game.

4. Pay attention to your reservation window

Reservation windows open at 60 days for your cruise. If you choose not to use the app or don’t have access, you can also book experiences by calling them in! I find this helpful because the cast members are Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser specific cast members and they can answer a lot of questions that you have. I learned so much by talking to them.

There is less competition in general for these but I would still consider waking up to book these. Star Wars Galactic Starcruisers have some set aside reservations for Oga’s Cantina which I suggest they do. There is a special mission for both sides (light and dark) at the Cantina. You can also book droid depot and Savi’s Workshop (both of these play into your storyline) and photo sessions. Makeovers are also available on your check-in day where you can choose from different face painting to create a detailed Star Wars look. We saw some younger cruisers getting this experience and they really enjoyed how they looked.

One thing to keep in mind is the timing of everything. Batuu transports are in the morning on your second day. One of the bigger challenges I've had when helping my clients was their photo session being booked at the same time as their Batuu transport. I would suggest doing the photo session in the afternoon after lunch. That way they can head to Batuu in the morning then come back for lunch and do the photo session.
